How are YOU on the gameday sidelines? What does it feel like to work alongside YOU or to be coached by YOU? Do YOU coach or criticize? Do YOU raise up or tear down? Do YOU breathe life into those around YOU, or are YOU one who sucks the energy out of others? Do your staff and players grow as a result of being around YOU?
One of my former coaching colleagues described his gameday experience as sixty minutes of gut-wrenching hell. Why do so many coaches feel this way? Let me suggest that many coaches have lost perspective of what it means to WIN!
I believe my oldest son, Austin, said it best this past week when he said, “A coach that does not know his identity before the competition begins cannot truly fulfill his role as a coach. He will spend all his energy searching for his identity in the results of the competition and miss the moments to coach during it.”
